Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 12

At first this week’s episode of Boruto appears to be yet another filler fest, but ends with a glimmer of hope for next week’s episode. This Mitsuki-focused story spends most of its time on some lazy character building, but wraps up with an answer to one of the show’s most pressing questions: who is behind the ghost incidents?

By the end, we learn that Mitsuki’s interest in Boruto was all a part of his personal investigation into the incidents. Once he decides he can trust Boruto with the results of his research, he reveals he knows the identity of the perpetrator. The show cuts off right before he names the person, but we can infer from the final shot he has deduced that it is Sumire, the class rep. After patiently waiting five or so episodes for some any plot reveal, it feels nice to have a vague answer, and hopefully a deeper explanation is coming within the next few episodes. Of course, this last minute reveal can’t completely salvage an otherwise slow episode, but I for one am just thankful they didn’t hold off another week.

I feel like I’ve said this too many times over the course of these twelve episodes, but it finally feels like we are getting somewhere. It has been a long road but the identity of the ninja behind the ghost incidents has been all but revealed, and we appear to be all set up for an explosive encounter next week. The episode all this information is delivered via an episode that is a bit of a slog, but ends on a hopeful note that left me looking forward to the next episode for the first time in a long time. 041b061a72
